Energy Tax Rebates for Window Film

Energy Tax Rebates

This article will explain what types of energy tax rebates are available when you install window film on your home. Keep check back often, as requirements and eligibility change often.

What Kind Of Rebate Is This?

Under the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010, residential customers who install qualifying window films are eligible for a tax credit. As of January 1st, 2011 the energy tax rebate for installing window film has been renewed. Once installed, you can receive 10% of your installation cost back (up to $500). This credit is good until December 31st, 2011 but is expected to be renewed again in 2012.

What Is A Tax Credit?

Unlike the more common deduction, which reduces your amount of income to be taxed, rebates directly increase the refund amount you receive. Please note that this rebate only applies to film cost and not installation. Therefore, it is still more cost effective to install yourself rather than paying for a professional.

How Do I Apply?

To apply for this rebate, simply fill out the IRS Form 5695 along with your latest tax return. You can download this form EnergyStar's website: Energy Tax Rebates For Window Film.
